The Mvula Trust’s mission is to improve the health and welfare of poor and disadvantaged South Africans in rural and peri-urban communities by increasing their access to safe and sustainable water and sanitation services.
Strategy
The Trust’s strategy is to alleviate poverty through:
- Testing and advocating sustainable models of cost-effective water services delivery and management
- Supporting local government in the delivery of sustainable, reliable, affordable water services
- Enabling local communities to manage their own water services thereby retaining economic resources within the community

To support local government in the delivery of sustainable, reliable and affordable water, sanitation and related services, particulaely in the poor, rural communities.
To Contribute to the development of new and improved policeies and practices in water supply, sanitation and related sectors that empower communities and promote sustainable livelihoods.
To promote and strengthen the role of civil society in development, so that communities are active and involved in managing their own development, articulate their views and hold service providers to account.
